Things did not go

as i wanted this week:

i wanted to paint, at least the ceiling before going to the coast, but i woke up one morning with a horrible backpain.

Thought ok, who cares, i'll wait a couple of days.

Then i discovered something really nasty: damp and dirt on a wall of the wardrobe and lots of garments had to be washed.

The damage is not in our appartment but in the building next door, what makes things even more complicated.

Also a lot of paperwork ahead, what i hate more than anything else.

I've spend 3 days one washing and sorting out, the smelly odour has nearly gone  and as we go by the end of the week we leave things behind for a while.

The big white box contains the coats , intended for movings, a great solution for a couple of weeks.

BASTA BASTA

The little quilt is made from leftovers of a big top, plaids and stripes from workingmen's shirts , soft feeling, but sturdy in the same time.

The leftovers where hidden in a little plastic bag and i sead oh, remnants, better throw it away.

But then i saw the little star, and see, 2 hours later: a little simple , unpretentious dollbed quilt.

The misery in the wardrobe also showed the battingremnants, and i sawed it together in  a big batting for a bedquilt, waste not want not.

It measures 19.5 by 21 inches.

the last get-together

before summertime:

We were in the garden of Dominique, the embroiderer among us who happens also to be  a cuisinière extra ordinaire, she spoiled us with chicken in lemonsauce and aubergine au four, girls i tell you, back at home in the evening, a cup of tea was enough for me...

Not forgetting the Tariquet and rosé.

The serial knitter-quilter- crocheter made a mouthwatering cheesecake with strawberry topping.

The wheather was chilly, we ate outside, under a few raindrops and well covered.

I know, i live here for soooooooo long, and allthough i pass by the rue St.Honoré so often, i had never mentioned this nice building with the cast-iron bow windows, i i imagine sitting there and quilt or sew and watch the world go by.....

These little sweeties made music on the steps of the St.Roch's church, rue St.Honoré too.

They danced and sung and peoeple stopped and filmed.

This is a new kid on the block: a little compact BERNINA 125,just plain cute and it sews smoothly and not noisy at all.

I'm looking for more presser foots and accessories, the machine came with just one and no toolbox.

The featherweight will stay my all-time favorite, because of the light weight but the ELNA grasshopper does a very good job too, but heavier to transport.

I made a little dollquilt from Dutch fabric, to escape from the other dutch quilt, ready now, exept a small piece of the binding.

Found in the street: an abandoned window.

Clever girls never leave home with a Leatherman tool, it allowed me to unscrew this beautiful iron element with the copper detail.

Its a sort of greek mermaid and i had to remove at least 8 layers of paint but it was worth the work a thousend times.....

Not sure when i will be back here, i will start painting the main room quickly.

Gone for the weekend

to Granville,for some quality time with the princess and her mum, just before the summer.

She turned 10 in May, growing fast in many ways and ALWAYS HUNGRY.........

The weather was gorgeous, and i came home with a red red nose, not such a good idea....

Show you this to prove i'm quilting steady on what i call the other Dutch quilt, the one from Pennsylvania.

Some people asked how i did the top in such a short time:

i designed the center medallion on graphpaper and appliquéd and pieced this part by hand.

All the rest is machine pieced.

I'm quilting in front of my computer , watching, better say listening, to Dutch and French tv programs i've missed, never a dull moment.

I've pulled out some  Japanese fabric, antique kimono fabric and some more recent, to make a log cabin on the Featherweight, wit an offwhite background, bought in Amsterdam at VAN HIER TOT TOKYO, a shop on the PRINSENGRACHT, close to the Westerkerk.

They sell remnants and kimono's for next to nothing.

Have also a new stash of workmenshirts, but no idea for the moment.

Before i wish you a very good weekend, i must confess that i may need to go to rehab from PINTEREST, oh boy, what an addiction....
